She is the President of the Richmond chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP), which she helped to start in 2016 and has been an active member since its inception.
Rachel practices from an Embodied Recovery for Eating Disorders (ERED) lens, which is an experiential approach encompassing the connections of interpersonal neurobiology, attachment, trauma, and the role of somatic organization in the development and treatment of disordered eating. An Eating Disorder (ED) develop when the nervous system becomes dysregulated due to barriers in the attachment system, defense system, and/or sensory processing system. ED symptoms and behaviors are the way the body speaks, as the body is a source of wisdom that only needs to be understood. Recovery from an ED happens through deeper embodiment of our attachment, defense, and sensory processing systems. ERED is a somato-physcho-social model using top down and bottom up processing. Rachel also utilizes concepts from Polyvagal Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Rachel is a dedicated mother to two wonderful children, Bradley and Madelyn, and a loving wife to her husband, Billy. Their family also includes two dogs, a yellow lab and a mini Aussie doodle.
